[Expired] Workshop on Living with Anxiety: From Surviving to Thriving by OCD & Anxiety HK
This interactive and informative workshop aims to provide participants with a solid understanding of anxiety and gives practical coping skills on how to manage and reduce anxiety. This workshop examines what anxiety means and broadens our understanding of the physiological, psychological and emotional components that anxiety brings. It will teach you skills so you can be the master of your anxiety instead of a slave to emotions and thoughts. Therefore, learning the difference between surviving anxiety and thriving with anxiety.
Scientific research has found that the most effective way in treating anxiety is through Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). This starts by identifying our anxious thoughts, developing awareness of the thinking style we possess as our thinking influences our beliefs about ourselves, others and the environment around us. Further examination will be given to anxious or unhelpful thoughts using a process called cognitive restructuring (thought challenging). Behaviour modification techniques will be explored to assist in changing unwanted behaviour such as avoidance of fearful situations. Relaxation exercises will be demonstrated to reduce anxiety using breathing techniques and progressive muscular relaxation. At the end of the workshop, you will have gained practical tips on how to thrive with anxiety in daily life, identify and challenge unhelpful patterns of thinking, adapt unhelpful behaviour and use relaxation techniques to manage anxiety.
Minal Mahtani is passionate about working with adults who struggle with mental health such as Anxiety disorders and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. She currently runs a monthly support group and works on an individual basis with those struggling with anxiety disorders. She possesses an honours degree in Psychology from the University of Nottingham and has received training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy from renowned practitioners from Harvard Medical School and the International Obsessive Compulsive Foundation (IOCDF), USA. OCD & Anxiety Support HK is a global partner of the IOCDF. She has attended several workshops and conferences in the area of mental health. Minal is a Mental Health First Aid practitioner and a certified Stress Management Yoga Teacher (RYT 500 from Integral Yoga Centre, Virginia) . She is truly committed to sharing the tools that she has learnt to others.
